INTRODUCTION TO NATURAL BUILDING, KENYA 2015

In January of 2015 i headed to Northern Kenya to assist my building mentor and friend Sasha Rabin in putting on a week long natural building course. Organized by Permaculture Research Institute Kenya and my friend Joseph Lentunyoi, and hosted at Joseph's project, Laikipia Permaculture Centre, the course was an introduction to cob building in an area that has a rich natural building tradition but has turned more and more to expensive and environmentally problematic cement-based construction.

The course was a great success, with a diverse group of students who engaged fully with the process. The result was a beautiful cob demonstration house that will be used as long-term volunteer quarters at LPC (as well as a little cob oven for good measure). Many thanks to our wonderful team of Sasha and Andrew Sifuri and to Lindsay AllenElin Lovisa and of course to Joseph for all they did to support the project.

This photo set documents the creation of the house from start to finish, and will accompany a few articles I'll be completing shortly including a step-by-step of the process to be published in English and Swahili.
